Detained Ugandan opposition leader Besigye moved to intensive care

Detained Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye has been admitted to an intensive care unit, according to his wife, raising fresh concerns about his health while in custody.

Besigye’s wife said his condition had deteriorated and called for urgent medical attention, urging authorities to ensure he receives proper treatment.

The veteran opposition figure has been in detention as legal proceedings against him continue. His supporters and human rights groups have repeatedly expressed concern over his health and the conditions of his detention.

The latest development has renewed calls from opposition leaders and rights organisations for authorities to guarantee Besigye’s wellbeing and uphold his legal and medical rights while he remains in custody.
