Taiwan President Lai Ching-te says maintaining peace and political stability is essential for protecting global technology and AI supply chains.
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te has stressed the importance of maintaining political stability across the Taiwan Strait, saying it is necessary for protecting global technology and artificial intelligence supply chains.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Computex technology conference in Taipei, Lai said Taiwan remains committed to preserving peace and maintaining the current political situation in the region. He described this approach as the island’s responsibility to the international technology industry.
Taiwan is considered one of the world’s most important technology hubs, especially in the semiconductor and AI sectors. Major global companies, including Nvidia and Apple, rely heavily on Taiwan’s chip manufacturing industry, which is led by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
Lai stated that the increasing global demand for AI technologies also increases the need for a reliable and stable Taiwan capable of supporting international supply chains.
The annual Computex event has brought together executives and technology leaders from some of the world’s biggest companies to discuss the future of innovation, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor development.
Meanwhile, tensions between Taiwan and China continue to remain a major international concern. China claims Taiwan as part of its territory and regularly conducts military activities near the island. Taiwan’s government, however, continues to reject Beijing’s sovereignty claims.
The issue was also discussed during a recent meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and former U.S. President Donald Trump, where concerns were reportedly raised about the risks of conflict if the Taiwan situation is mishandled.
