At least one person was killed and over 60 injured after Iranian drone strikes targeted Kuwait International Airport amid rising tensions between Iran and the United States.
At least one person was killed and more than 60 others were injured after Iranian drone strikes targeted Kuwait International Airport, according to local authorities.
Kuwaiti officials described the attack as a serious escalation in regional tensions. The country’s defence ministry condemned the incident, calling it an act of “criminal Iranian aggression,” while the foreign ministry reported damage to several diplomatic facilities.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for the strikes, stating they were carried out in response to recent US military operations involving an Iranian oil tanker and targets near Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz.
Authorities later identified the person killed in the attack as an Indian national. India’s foreign ministry confirmed that several other Indian citizens were also injured during the incident and called for an immediate halt to escalating attacks in the region.
Following the strikes, Kuwait ordered two Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 24 hours and summoned Iran’s chargé d’affaires for discussions over the incident.
The attack came shortly after the United States announced what it described as “self-defence” military actions against Iranian targets. US Central Command said its forces launched overnight strikes on Qeshm Island in response to alleged Iranian military threats across the Middle East.
According to US officials, American forces also intercepted several Iranian missiles and drones aimed toward Kuwait, Bahrain, and regional maritime routes. Centcom stated that three attack drones heading toward civilian vessels were shot down before reaching their targets.
Iran, meanwhile, said it had launched missiles and drones against US military assets and bases in Gulf countries as retaliation for recent American operations.
US Central Command also revealed details about a separate naval incident involving an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz. Officials said a US aircraft fired a missile at the engine room of a Botswana-flagged tanker after the vessel allegedly ignored repeated warnings during ongoing naval enforcement operations.
The latest developments have raised concerns about the stability of the fragile ceasefire efforts between Washington and Tehran, with fears growing that further military exchanges could lead to a broader regional conflict.
Regional governments and international observers continue to monitor the situation closely as diplomatic tensions intensify across the Gulf.
