Reports suggest Lebanon is included in a US–Iran ceasefire, but conflicting statements from officials raise doubts as displacement continues in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon has been mentioned in reports surrounding a newly announced ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, but uncertainty remains over whether the country is formally included in the deal.
According to Iranian and Pakistani officials, the agreement is said to extend to Lebanon as part of broader regional de-escalation efforts. However, conflicting statements from Israeli officials have raised doubts about whether fighting affecting southern Lebanon has actually come to an end.
Confusion over ceasefire terms
While details of the agreement remain unclear, the lack of consistent official confirmation has led to confusion among residents and observers in Lebanon.
Some reports suggest the deal is intended to reduce hostilities across multiple fronts linked to the wider regional conflict. However, key parties involved in the fighting in Lebanon have not issued unified statements confirming a full cessation of violence.
Life in southern Lebanon remains uncertain
Despite the announcement, conditions on the ground remain fragile. Videos from Monday showed some residents attempting to return to southern areas of Lebanon after months of displacement.
However, local authorities have urged civilians not to return to border villages until the security situation becomes clearer, citing ongoing risks.
Many families remain displaced in Beirut and other cities, uncertain about when—or if—it will be safe to go back home.
Displaced residents face difficult choices
For many, returning is not a realistic option even if fighting slows.
One displaced resident, 55-year-old Ali Saleh from the southern village of Jwaya, said he has been living in a stadium in Beirut since March.
“I won’t be heading back home,” he said. “My house was hit and you know the situation financially is difficult at the moment.”
His situation reflects the broader humanitarian impact of the conflict, which has left many homes damaged and livelihoods destroyed.
Uncertain path forward
While diplomatic efforts continue, the situation in Lebanon remains highly uncertain. Without clear and coordinated confirmation from all involved parties, questions remain over whether the ceasefire will hold and whether displaced families will be able to safely return home.
For now, Lebanon remains caught between announcements of peace and the reality of ongoing instability on the ground.
