In the build-up to Spain’s second group-stage match against Saudi Arabia, Yamal was at the centre of social media discussions about his fitness and outspoken pro-Palestine activism. Saudi fans also playfully chanted “Where is Yamal?” in the streets of Atlanta ahead of the match.
The chants echoed a famous moment from the 2022 World Cup when Saudi Arabia stunned Argentina and fans taunted Lionel Messi. However, Yamal answered the questions in style, producing another standout display and reaffirming his status as one of football’s brightest young stars.
