Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez is scheduled to visit India from June 3 to June 7 for discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in energy, trade, and investment between the two countries.
Indian officials said Rodriguez is expected to hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior government representatives during her visit. The talks are likely to cover multiple sectors including energy, healthcare, transportation, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, and business investment.
The visit comes at a time when India has significantly increased crude oil imports from Venezuela in response to ongoing disruptions in global energy supplies. Recent reports show that India became one of the largest buyers of Venezuelan oil in May, with major Indian companies increasing purchases from Caracas.
Rodriguez is also expected to meet executives from India’s energy sector in Mumbai, where discussions may focus on future oil supply agreements and investment opportunities.
India, one of the world’s largest oil-consuming nations, has been searching for alternative crude suppliers as tensions in the Middle East continue to affect energy markets and shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz.
India had previously reduced oil imports from Venezuela due to U.S. sanctions, but purchases resumed earlier this year after restrictions were partially eased following new agreements between Washington and Caracas.
Rodriguez last visited India in 2025 when she participated in the India Energy Week conference as Venezuela’s oil minister. Her latest trip is being viewed as an important step toward expanding economic and energy relations between the two countries.
